Community Values

Our Mission

Through socially engaged early childhood education that prioritizes collaborative exploration, we grow a community of young children and their adults where there is empathy for all and connection to the natural world. Our work is anti-bias, anti-racist and nature-based. The school is a great space for antiracism work, and it keeps growing with the support of our community. We are going to do this work with you to propel us into continued forward momentum to build a place where every child belongs.

Family Testimonials

"Everything at Collective Kind is done in such a smart, and compassionate way. We've been especially impressed with the thoughtful method by which new students are introduced to the school, the individualized and independent learning techniques, the teachers' natural rapport with the kids, and the gentle way the children play with one anotherWithin days of coming to CK, [our child] was chattering away — it was clear she felt immediately at home there... We also feel at home at Collective Kind, and are very grateful to be a part of this community." - Clermont Parent, 2025

"They were always on my son's level, speaking to him with respect and dignity... We learned as a family how to slow down, listen to one another, respect boundaries, express joy and play, and honor one another's needs — all through those early years at Collective Kind. It was a formative experience for us, and it's shaped our expectations for the public school experience and beyond." - Slope Parent, 2023

“From the moment we joined Collective Kind, we felt a deep sense of belonging - not just for our child, but for our whole family. For almost three years, the warmth, care, and dedication of the teachers made this more than just a school; it’s a community that truly welcomes everyone. Collective Kind creates an environment where every child is seen, valued, and nurtured, and that inclusivity is felt in every interaction. It’s a place where all families can find support, connection, and a sense of home. We couldn’t be more grateful to have been a part of this incredible community, which we miss and will always cherish.” - Rogers Parent, 2024

Social justice starts with us adults doing our own work,
so we have tools and the ability to be self-reflective.
And then, modeling antiracism for our children
and bringing in the resources to educate them.

Antiracism work begins with looking inward and understanding your biases. When discussing race with children the time is always now! Studies have shown that children start to notice race at 6-months-old. As we are doing our own work as adults to have the tools to acknowledge and provide counter messaging to our own biases, we can also work on modeling anti-racist action for our children and having direct conversations with them discussing their race, what is racism and how to be anti-racist.

You don’t have to be an expert or do it perfectly because luckily it's a continual conversation we need to always return to, so you’ll have more opportunities to keep learning!
